Under the cover of darkness, we departed Bögenhafen.
Our allies the good captain Goetrin and the magistrate Hans Richter kept us hidden after the horrific and daemonic events on the last night of Schaffenfest. Inquisitors and witch hunters from the region descended quickly on the town to investigate. One of them even had a description of Cyan as a “person of interest”. But since the good captain and the magistrate knew the truth, or at least enough of it, of what had gone on (and our innocence with regards to it), we thought it best to not walk the streets openly for a week.
We got word to Josef that we needed a way out of town. Arrangements we made and under the cover of darkness, the captain smuggled us to the docks. We boarded the the Berebeli and slipped out into the Bögen quietly shortly after midnight.

On the evening of Backertag, we chanced across another barge adrift in the river. We pulled along side and soon found ourselves engaged with a number of pitiful wretches warped by Chaos. Driven mad by corruption they attacked us and we had no choice but to dispatch them prejudice. We searched the boat and found the bodies of the previous owner and his family and a load of fine Bögenhafen wool. Josef congratulated us on our good fortune, as traditional river salvage rights gave us the right to take the barge and its cargo. Of course, we needed to make an effort to find the proper owners (legally, speaking), but should we not be able to find them, we could legally register ourselves as the new owners in Altdorf (or any other provincial capitol). Altdorf is nearby, of course.
While enjoying the prospect of a barge of our own, we found two survivors hiding in below decks. A trader, Renate, and a young white wizard, Wigel, both of whom had booked passage back to Altdorf from Bögenhafen on the doomed boat.

On Konigstag, we arrived in Weissbruck at set about finding Elvyra Kleinestun, the apothecary we’d met at the Schaffenfest. Cy found her home, which seemed to have been broken into. He fetched a couple of watchmen, Frank and Alvin, who helped him search the house. In the basement, Cy found 10-year-old Liza and Mr. Cluckles, her rooster. Liza was Elvyra’s ward and had been banished to the basement as punishment for stealing some pretty powder from Elvyra’s apothecary. She had heard Elvyra being kidnapped and the kidnappers mentioning “the red barn”.
Cy visited the constabulary to report the crime, but the constable was not very interested in Elvyra’s predicament (he seemed to think very lowly of her). However, he agreed to let one of the watchmen, Alvin, come with us to look for Elvyra, giving us the imprimatur of acting within the bounds of the law.
We found the red barn on the outskirts of town, a shabby, run-down thing. Sneaking around and listening, we heard the kidnappers sleeping inside. We snuck around back, and after learning the Cy had seemingly gained a stone (or two) in Bögenhafen, we managed to nonetheless creep past the kidnappers and secure Elvyra’s escape.
We took her back to our barge, though she wasn’t too keen on it, and needled her about the kidnappers. All she knew was that a very disreputable fellow in Altdorf, one Alberich Hollzauber, had attempted to blackmail Elvyra into making a special substance (a magical powder) for him. Elvyra had refused, as the substance, called Death’s Half Finger, was a known component used in necromancy. Or daemonology. Or both!, she gasped. However, we cajoled her into staying on our barge with us, for her own safety. She agreed, as long as we took Liza, her niece, as well.
